Benefits of Using an Aquasentry Grease Separator Alarm
Alarm warnings give you time to take corrective action, ensuring the safe and economical operation of your grease separator. This prevents fats, oils, and grease (FOG) from passing through the separator and polluting watercourses, which may result in expensive fines and cleanup costs.
Section 111 of the Water Industry Act makes it illegal to release substances into the sewer that could obstruct its flow. Grease separator tanks that are not properly maintained can let FOG enter the main drainage network. This can gradually slow wastewater movement, place extra strain on drainage systems, and potentially cause sewage overflows.
Aquasentry grease separator alarms:
- Warn of excessive levels of grease
- Tell you when your grease separator needs emptying
- Reduce waste management costs
- Provide 24/7 monitoring with LCD (model dependent) and audible/visual alarm
- Designed to comply with BS EN 1825-1:2004
- Can be fitted to underground grease separator tanks from all manufacturers
- Reduce separator servicing costs
- Ensure safe and economic operation of grease separators
- Reduce risk of prosecution for non-compliance, which could include fines, prison sentences, revocation of a food hygiene rating, forced business closure, and the negative PR that goes with it.

Web Portal
Wireless monitoring of levels in your grease separators allows you to keep track of their performance remotely. Data is sent from the receiver located in the tank to the gateway in a central location and can be viewed via our web portal. Remote monitoring of FOG levels in grease separators enables tanks in multiple sites to be monitored from one central location. This is ideal for businesses with multiple grease separators and/or multiple sites dispersed across a wide geographical area.
What Are Grease Separator Alarms?
A grease separator, also known as a grease interceptor, is a specialised device designed to capture fats, cooking oils and grease created by making hot food before these substances enter the main drainage system. Grease separators function by allowing wastewater to cool and settle. As the temperature drops, heavier food solids sink to the bottom while lighter grease and oil rise to the surface. This separation process enables cleaner water to flow safely into the drainage system while trapping harmful FOG residues that would otherwise cause damage. Due to this continuous build-up of FOG, regular emptying and maintenance of grease separators is important.
Grease separator alarms are low-cost monitoring devices installed within grease separators to detect when FOG and/or liquid levels reach a critical level. Without an alarm, separators can fill up unnoticed, rendering them ineffective and allowing grease to escape into drains. Manual checks are time-consuming and often prone to human error, especially across multiple sites.
How The Systems Work
Grease separator alarms use a control panel linked to up to two sensors, positioned at set levels within the separator tank. These sensors continuously monitor for FOG and high liquid levels (the latter is optional). If any threshold is exceeded, the system triggers an alert, allowing the business to arrange for the grease separator to be emptied before FOG is discharged down the drain.
Service and Maintenance
